This summer plans to put turf on the Petrakis Baseball Field were in the works, but now the plan is on hold and negotiating is still taking place.

The field has had a lot of controversy over some turf and a little paint, but to the players, it is much more.

In January, President Collins and Head Baseball Coach Carl Tebon, went to the city and proposed a project to put natural turf on the Petrakis Field.

Tebon was happy with the city’s reaction.

Tebon said, “They were all excited about the project so we continued on.”

The excitement did not last.

It has now been three weeks of controversy, and the City of Dubuque wants to take Loras’s logo off the scoreboard and the turf.

Tebon said, “that it’s kind of negotiating between us and them to see if we can come to an agreement to where we can get our name on it.”

The coach may still have high hopes of a positive outcome, but what do the players think?

Senior Short Stop, Nick Olberding, helped his team fundraise over 115,000 dollars.

Olberding said, “We are raising a substantial amount of money for how much time we spent on this field.”

The team and Nick just want this issue to be resolved.

“I mean I just want something done to the field because I think it can use some improvements for the future,” said Olberding.

As for now, the team continues to play on the field, and for the rest of the season the game is on.
