What an overused word! “Love,” that is! We “love” a song, we “love” that new outfit or pair of shoes, we “love” that new song or that car … And we say we love someone – what does that mean? Jesus uses the word love frequently – but with a special qualification: “ As I have loved you” … Maybe we would all do well to used that qualifier for the rest of the millions of things we say we love. “As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.” In fact, Jesus is so confident, he goes on to say: “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” The Easter challenge of discipleship is taken to a deeper level this week — beyond listening and hearing the shepherd’s voice. We really follow Christ by loving — and not a short-sighted or selfish loving, but one that is patterned on how Christ first loved us. Don’t you just love that?
Have a great week!~ Padre
