Going into their second game of the day against Coe College the Loras College women’s softball team finds themselves trying to break a four game losing streak and get closer back to an even record for the club.

Last week the team took on Simpson College, who is at the top of the standings in the conference with a record of 12-2 and 27-8 total. Loras on the other hand, just have not found a way to put together a string of wins and make up the ground they need to in the conference with their 3-8 record and 13-15 record overall. Coach Rogers thought her team played very well against Simpson even taking them in one game into the ninth inning, but ending up losing 1-6. They had opportunities to win both games, but it just came down to not capitalizing on their opportunities.

The team finds themselves in a tough situation, but the coach knows that they can still do it. “We are still contending for a spot in the conference tournament and we have six games left to make it happen.  We have played teams tough all year; we need to believe that we are good team and figure out how to finish.” In order to do that the team will have to win out the rest of their games in the conference and hope for some things to happen so that they can keep playing for something.

An exciting time for the Loras team was senior day during the Coe College double header to recognize the three senior players that have played for their team. The girl’s teammates lined up on the third base line and each player was introduced to cheers and balloons and presents for their fantastic contributions for the team. When Coach Rogers was asked about it earlier she could not wait for the recognition, “We are very excited for our senior day and to honor our three seniors: Michelle Bahl, Emily Randecker and Crystal Strauch.  They have all contributed so much to the softball program over the past 4 years.  We wish them the best of luck as they begin the next chapter in their lives.”
