Choices. The last five weeks we have spent time reflecting on the myriad of choices we face each day — choices to include or exclude, choices for life or death, choices that build up or tear down. Rarely are the choices neutral — we either make choices that take us closer to our most authentic self, or choices that blur our image or change who we are altogether.
Next week is the holiest of weeks for Christians. Holy Week provides a time for some critical evaluation of the choices Christ has made for us — and how our lives measure up in response. Jesus chose to give everything for our right to choose — even if our choices are short-sighted and limiting. His great love for us is a choice — choosing not to give us what we deserve, but to again invite us back into relationship. Christ chooses not to lose us!
During this break, be sure not to take a break from Christ. Be intentional about Holy Week. Try to celebrate the Triduum — Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday, with a church of your choice. The power of reliving Christ’s passion, death and resurrection is the model for our own lives; uniting our struggles, failures and successes. How will you choose to celebrate? I will remember your prayers and the intentions of the entire Loras community at Mass on Easter Sunday. Choose to invite Christ into your heart this Easter! Have a wonderful week!
