“What are you trying to protect heterosexual marriages from? There isn’t a limited amount of love. It isn’t a non-renewable resource. If Amy and Barbara or Mike and Steve love each other, it doesn’t mean that John and Mary can’t” Ed Fallon, former Governor of Iowa
Earlier today, “I will”‘s finally turned into “I do”‘s in Washington D.C.!!
Today is a historic day on the journey to equality for same-sex partners. Today, March 3, 2010, the District of Columbia legalized same-sex unions. About 150 couples made their way to the marriage bureau inside the city’s Moultrie Courthouse to apply for their marriage licenses. This morning couples traveled to D.C. from close as Virginia and Maryland, and from as far as Deleware and West Virginia. Some of the couples have been together for months, others more than a decade. The District of Columbia has become the sixth place in the country permitting same-sex unions. I am proud to say that Iowa is one of these leading progressive states of equality along with Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont that also issue same-sex couples licenses. This is a giant step forward in the Gay Rights Movement and an even greater step forward in the revolution for equality of love! Congratulations to all the newly weds!!
Peace. Love. Equality. Keep on keepin’ on.
