Community Outreach, one of the 8 planning committees for Dance Marathon, has just finished up two very busy weeks! The Community Outreach committee is in charge of building our relationship with the greater Dubuque Community. This includes setting up and attending what are called Mini Dance Marathons at daycares, elementary schools, and high schools throughout the area. In the past two weeks, we’ve planned and executed 7 minis! One more was postponed, due to weather.
Here is a photo gallery of the days event: Mini Madness Photo Gallery
Each mini is facilitated by the Community Outreach “tri-chairs,” Abby Schmitz, Angela Kettmann, and Tricia Geistkemper. Nearly a dozen additional Loras DMers attend each mini, sometimes more and sometimes a little less. We play games, facilitate fun activities, and even do a little dancing! Of course, the main purpose is to teach the importance of philanthropy from a young age. We show DVDs of miracle families from the Dubuque area, so that the young students have a visual of who they’re helping. To bring the energy back up after the very touching family story, we always do this cheer—Facilitator: “Who’s it for?” Students: “IT’S FOR THE KIDS!” This always gets the students geared up for a fun time at the mini!
Below you’ll find a picture of Mollie Martin, family relations co-chair, with miracle child Ava Neuman at Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Mini Dance Marathon. The school system raised more than $1,000 FOR THE KIDS (FTK)! Congrats to ALL the schools who are fundraising FTK!
