Is all advice the same?
Living in an “information age” with such an overload of sources to gather advice, guidance and suggestions, it is no wonder that we fall into relativism. Subtly, opinions have replaced the diligent search for truth — and, now, “what’s true for you is not necessarily true for me.”
But all advice is not the same.
Where do you get yours? To whom do you listen? In a classic fishing story from Luke 5:1-11, we see that even seasoned veterans can learn something new. After a long night with no luck of a catch, Jesus encourages them to go deeper and lower their nets again. Simon (one of the greatest fisherman of all times) says in effect: “Listen, we have been working and it’s no use, but, if you insist …”
And they tried again. And guess what? The result was nothing short of amazing! Maybe you are tired of working and not seeing much fruit. Maybe your life seems to be a whole lot of effort, but not taking you where you want to go. Maybe you’re taking advice from a million sources, but not THE Source. Make time in your day to listen to Christ who encourages you by saying: “Put out into the deep and lower your nets.” You’ll be amazed.
Have a great week! ~Padre
