The men’s soccer team beat Buena Vista University 4-0 Saturday on its own turf. The Duhawks hope to do the same to Central on Saturday.
The soccer team traveled all the way to Storm Lake on a pretty inconvenient weekend. Keeping that in mind, the team should not have been excited to go out there and perform well, when so much was happening on their own campus.
But all signs point to the likelihood that they were up for the challenge. They didn’t let the other team score.
“The other team made it hard and they put a lot of people behind the ball defensively, and made it challenging for ball to get in the net, even though we did have a ton of chances,” said Coach Dan Rothert.
A long bus ride can drain one’s energy, and being away on Homecoming did not help the team’s spirit either. None-theless, the Duhawks struck fast, scoring just seven minutes into the game.
“Give our guys credit; they got through that,” Roth-ert said. “But it was one of those games we should have won anyhow.”
Loras now has a three-game winning streak it will put on the line Saturday, Oct. 3. Loras will host Central in a 3:30 p.m. game
“Central is tough,” Rothert said. “They beat us last year, and that was one of our few losses. There is some revenge on the guys’ minds. They are one of the better teams in our conference, so we’re going to go out and have a very good game.”
